(1) Rabbit’s foot … (660 B.C.) considered a sign of good luke or to
possess magical power. Tribes worshipped animals supposed to have power to
protect, they were called ancestral animals. Certain animal parts were used as
AMULETS ( charm worn against evil ). ROM 1:23, 25 … changing the glory
of the incorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, to birds,
four-footed beasts and creeping things.
(2) Horse Shoe … ( 4th century Greece ). Belief that St.
Dunstan, AD 959, a blacksmith, gave the horse shoe special power against evil
sprits and witchery. LUKE 10:19 … God gives power over the enemy, not
objects. We have power in the name of Jesus Christ to defeat the enemy. To
prevent the “luck in the horseshoe from draining out” the ends were to be
pointed upward. Do we get our protection from God or from a horseshoe over our
door?
(3) Wishbone …
breaking the V-shaped clavicle of a fowl for good luck or a secret wish is a
form of DIVINATION, which scripture firmly forbids. EZEKIEL 21:21. The use of
animal or human body parts is a practice that is not new to the OCCULT. Demons
get people today to repeat the same bondages of the past.
(4) Knock on wood … ( 2000 BC ) Supposed to counteract bad luck. Early
Christians knocked on wood because Christ was crucified on the tree, and a wish
could be made to Christ using the “knocking on wood” to bring it to pass. The
BIBLE tells us to ask for what we want in the name of Jesus, not the tree Jesus
was crucified on. See JOHN 14:13 for instructions from Jesus Christ.
N.A. Indians considered the oak a dwelling place of the “sky god”. Early Greeks
thought the “god of lightning” dwelt in the oak. Indians knock on wood to ask
forgiveness of the sky god. Do you really believe these are just little
“innocent matters” or can you detect demonic mixture to bind people to
faith in things and not the LORD?
(5) Four Leaf Clover … ( 200 BC / British Isles ) People believed by
having a four- leaf closer they could discern demons and through incantations (
spoken or sung charms or spells ) could thwart their sinister influence. ACTS
19:19 …”curious arts.” Many superstitions people use today are nothing more
than a continuation of the curious arts that the pagans used in worshipping
their gods or demons. We must stop these practices.
(6) Crossed Fingers … Pre-Christian Era, Western Europe. Pagan belief
that a cross was the symbol of perfect unity, a wish made on a cross was
supposed to be steadfast or lucky. Also considered a way to trap a fantasy
until it becomes reality.
(7) String Tied on the Finger … Today it is a “memory aid” and psychologically
associated with reminding you of something you “might forget”. The ancient
Celts, Romans and Anglo-Saxons believed it prevented an idea from escaping from
the body.
(8) Broken Mirror … 1st Century, Rome. Used for divination (
a la “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”). The witch asked the mirror who was
fairest of all…in the practice of witchcraft this is called “MIRROR MANTICS”.
Mirror was supposed to reveal the future of any person who cast his or her
image on the mirror. If the mirror breaks the holder had no future or was
supposed to die. Romans believed in life cycles of 7 years so a broken mirror
was supposed to bring 7 years of bad luck, ill health or misfortune. 2
CHRONICLES 16:9 … “ for the eyes of the LORD run to and from throughout the
whole earth …”
(9) Friday the 13th and the number
13 … Christians should not
dictate lucky or unlucky days … a date DOES NOT control your life, God does.
Friday the 13th comes from the Norse or Germanic word FRIGGA,
a spirit goddess of love and fertility. Was believed this goddess met with 11
witches and the devil and the 13 of them together would plot evil for the week.
Other nonsensical beliefs include that Friday the 13th was when Eve
tempted Adam, Noah set sail, Tower of Babel was struck by confusion of tongues,
temple of Solomon toppled and Jesus was crucified. Demons want us to continue
to believe these foolish matters. Today one can see hotels, motels and
elevators avoid using the 13th floor or room number. Scriptures for
a sound mind: 1 TIM 1:7 and 1 JOHN 4:18
(10)Black cat walking across your path … cats
were worshipped as sacred animals,
even the death of a cat was mourned
by the entire family. 9 lives of a cat due to
belief that they survived numerous
“high falls.” During a hunt for a witch it was
believed that anyone who had a black
cat was suspected of being a witch. God is
pointed on this issue in ROM 1:25.
Cats are family pets, nothing more or less.

Walking under a ladder … a ladder
rested against the crucifix, it became a
symbol of wickedness, betrayal and
death. Egyptians considered the ladder a
symbol of good luck because a ladder
was used to rescues OSIRIS from the
spirit of darkness. These kinds of
fears indicate a person has lost the perfect
peace the PRINCE of PEACE died to
give His victorious church. ISA 26:3
